Bio
I recently completed my PhD in Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University. While I was there, I combined my experiences in clinical medicine and my engineering expertise to study biomaterials. My thesis work described a microfluidic system that I created to shape nanofibers into biomaterial scaffolds that mimic the extracellular matrix. Before I traveled to Chicago to complete my PhD, I studied Polymer Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Outside work, I love working on hands-on or coding projects. Two recent project are building a Voron 3D printer, and creating a program to automatically update my desktop with real-time satellite images of the continental US. I also enjoy playing guitar and cuddling my two cats, Dexter and Amigo.Project ideas
Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.
Isolating pigments using 3D Printed Microfluidics
In this project, you will use basic 3D printing techniques to build microfluidic devices which can separate the base pigments that make up multi-component dyes. In the course of this project, I expect that you will expand your engineering expertise with hands-on work, as well as learn about 3D modeling, chemical separations, and fluid dynamics.
