Bio
My name is Jennifer, I am a U.S.-based PhD in neuroscience and am finishing my law degree this year. I am interested in the intersection of science and policy and in how science can inform evidence-based legal practices. When not working, I enjoy reading speculative fiction, playing video games, and cooking.Project ideas
Plan an Experiment
On a topic of your choice, I will help you come up with a research question (or you can have one in mind), and we will work together to develop testable hypothesis, and a research plan. We will discuss ethics and experimental design. This process would be useful for any student who hopes to work in a laboratory setting or apply for research grants.
Journal Club
Investigate a topic of your choosing and learn how to read primary scientific literature. We will discuss scientific papers on your topic, figure by figure, discussing and analyzing experimental design and the published results. For a final project, the student will choose a paper and present it journal-club style. This process is useful for students who are considering applying for graduate programs.
Research Paper
Write a review or a project proposal background section on a topic of your choice. We will read review articles as well as newly published papers to gain a better understanding of the current state of a particular field. This project is suitable for students at any level, and can be adapted to complement other projects.
Explore the Nervous System
Are you interested in Neuroscience but have never taken any classes in it? This project might be for you. I will help you pick a brain system or process (ex. vision, smell, touch, memory, pain) and you will create a short presentation or poster about how that system functions. Suitable for students at any level.
