Bio

I am Evan Cramer, a Ph.D. candidate at West Virginia University in Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine. My research interests are in DNA nanotechnology and its applications in the clinical and biotechnical fields. Outside of my work, I am a big fan of soccer and formula one. I also enjoy the outdoors and like to hike and camp. When I can't be outside I also enjoy gaming with my friends.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Recent advancements in Gene Editing

Gene editing as a technology is constantly growing and evolving. For a long time this technology was thought to not be usable in the treatment of human disease. However, recent advancements are making targeted genetic editing a potentially safe and effective way to treat previously untreatable diseases.

The biology of Immortality

For a long time aging and lifespan were thought to be primarily due to telomere length and their shortening overtime. Recently this has been found to be a much more complex problem involving genetic and epigenetic reprogramming. Knowing what we know now, is it theoretically possible to create an immortal organism? If so, what would be needed?

The relationship between computational and experimental biology

Recent advancements in simulation and A.I programs have made it possible to model complex systems computationally. This has revolutionized how scientists work through projects and search for novel pharmaceutical treatments and therapeutic targets. This project will examine recent advancements in computational biology and how they relate to and support the classic experimental work that is currently being performed.
