Hello, my name is Shivangi and I am a third year medical student concurrently enrolled in a genomics masters degree program. My academic interests are primarily in the areas of animal behavior and genetics/genomic medicine. Additionally, I have a strong personal interest in art history. I have been an avid crafter for many years and I knit and crochet garments and toys for myself, friends, and family. I also have two cats that constantly keep me entertained. I have been tutoring high school students for many years and mentorship is one of the most fulfilling areas of my life.

Perceptions of Personalized Medicine from a Sociodemographic Lens

Personalized medicine is an increasingly promising area of development which aims to customize patients' medical care based on their genetic data. Historically, studies utilizing this data have under-sampled lower income minority populations even though these individuals may have greater susceptibility to a number of preventable diseases. This project involves surveying a diverse population of individuals to determine patients' understanding and attitudes about genetic research and personalized medicine. Student responsibilities will include designing and administering a survey, analyzing data, and writing up findings.
