Bio
My name is Jocelyn and I am an MPH candidate for the Community Health Sciences department at UCLA. My research experience is focused on improving health services in underserved communities. My academic interests include global health, health equity in minority populations, and addressing the homelessness crisis. My personal interests include hiking, exploring national parks and snowboarding. Although I have lived in California my whole life, this past year was my first time visiting Yosemite National Park (where I met Alex Honnold, for the rock climbing enthusiasts).Project ideas
Public Health Program Proposal
In this project, you will have the opportunity to choose a public health problem of interest to you (ex: homelessness crisis, postpartum depression among mothers, gun violence). The goal of this project is to create a public health program to address your topic of choice. Each session will focus on putting together pieces to create the final program proposal. Assignments include establishing a topic problem, goals/objectives, activities for your program, budget and drafting the final program proposal. Together, we can brainstorm ideas or narrow down your interests!
Public Health Research Analysis
The goal of this project is to dive deep into a public health topic (ex: housing program effects on low-income communities, barriers for accessing healthy foods). Using existing research, we will work on gathering information to put together a final paper on what is known, what has been done and what are the gaps in the research of your chosen topic that can be addressed in the future (maybe one day, you can conduct your own study to address this issue)! Activities for each session include outlining a topic of interest, reading relevant peer-reviewed journal articles, conducting a literature review, identifying main themes, and drafting a final product. The final product will be a public health research analysis paper.
