Bio

Hi all! My name is Emily (she/her) and I am a recent MPH graduate from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. I currently work as a clinical trials program manager at UCSF, overseeing long COVID clinical trials in the division of HIV, Infectious Disease, and Medicine. I obtained my B.S. in Global Disease Biology from UC Davis, with an emphasis in human infectious disease, and later obtained my MPH from UCLA, focused on biopsychosocial impacts of infectious disease. I also have experience working in mental health and mobile clinic settings, aimed at providing low barrier care to individuals facing mental illness, substance use, homelessness, and beyond. I am passionate about realized access to healthcare, and the integration of whole person, trauma-informed care into all aspects of patient coordination. My primary areas of interest include biopsychosocial impacts of disease, harm reduction, infectious disease, and improving services for people experiencing homelessness. I am originally from Northern California, and am a plant and bird enthusiast! I have two pet finches names Dex and Rem :^)

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Create an Interactive Literature Review

After conducting a literature review on a topic of interest, use Excel and Canva (or another free graphic design resource) to create data visualization and an informational overview of the topic. This could be related to social sciences, public health, or biology - anything you want! Build critical reading skills and learn how to interpret research findings by transforming these data into a fun and easy to read format for others to understand. Also learn principles of health communication and stakeholder identification.

Coding skills

Stata (basic quantitative data analysis)

Teaching experience

I worked as a College Academic Mentor at UCLA, mentoring undergraduate students in academic life, research pursuits, and work/life balance. I have also volunteered as a mentor for students looking to pursue a career in public health. I love to be a resource for students looking to learn more about research and the many possibilities in the field!
