Bio
Hi! My name is Rayven L. Peterson, I am a current doctoral student pursuing my Counseling Psychology Ph.D. My research interest broadly includes social justice issues, mental health disparities, and the barriers that serve as facilitators to mental health help-seeking within the Black community. In terms of research projects, I am interested in assisting in the following projects: (1) projects dedicated to mental health disparities in underrepresented populations and communities, (2) substance use disorders and social determinants that influence the initiation of substance use, (3) investigating the help-seeking behaviors of communities a part of the global majority, (4) investigating cultural mistrust among Black community members, and (5) research projects focused on sexuality among members of the Black community.Project ideas
Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.
Mental health disparities in underrepresented populations and communities
Investigating the barriers that impede the use of mental health services among underrepresented communities in research (e.g., Black communities and Latinx communities).
