Bio
My name is Sarah and my interests are in translational oncology. I'm a PhD student studying splicing in cancer, and how cancer-specific splice variants can be targeted with immunotherapies. I have a B.S. in biology and chemistry and a M.S. in biology and am currently a PhD student in cancer research. In my free time I enjoy reading fiction, mystery, and autobiographies and spending time with my dachshund, Peaches.Project ideas
Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.
Splicing regulation by histone modifiers
Histone modifications regulate gene expression and control within the nucleus. Nearly all multi-exon genes express alternative isoforms by splicing. This project will gather data on histone modifications and the impact on splicing in health and disease.
Teaching experience
I have experience as a graduate teaching assistant. During my M.S. program, I taught general biology labs to first and second year college students. I have mentored undergraduate students in both my M.S. and PhD programs.Credentials
