Bio
My name is Paia, and I graduated from college with degrees in Neuroscience and Theatre. Seemingly different, studying both of these has helped me explore human behavior and emotion through multiple lenses. I currently conduct psychiatry research, particularly studying adolescents with anxiety. My personal interest is helping understand the developing brain to improve diagnostic and treatment measures for pediatric populations. Moreover, I aim to improve our current standardized healthcare systems to ultimately increase healthcare equity for families. In addition to research, I enjoy theater (creating or watching), reading or watching mysteries, singing, and boxing.Project ideas
Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.
Improving mental health of children of low-income urban communities
This examines the effects on adolescent mental health of growing up in a low-income, urban neighborhood. Reviewing community statistics and scientific literature, it is important to consider how environmental stressors can contribute to the community's well-being. Ultimately, there are several facets to incorporate in our understanding, but evidence-based interventions for adolescent mental health and increasing mental health education can help promote well-being in urban settings.
