- Research Program Mentor
PhD candidate at Tufts University
Expertise
I would like to mentor students in neuroscience, epilepsy, immunology, cancer biology, molecular biology and biotechnology.
Bio
I am a PhD candidate at Tufts University. My thesis project focuses on the development of a therapeutic to treat those with epilepsy due to mutations in sodium ion channels. Before entering my PhD studies I worked at a biotechnology company for two years. My work there was to understand immunological interactions between viruses and immune system proteins. Prior to that I received my undergraduate degree at Suffolk University and researched bacterial conjugation. Outside of work I am passionate about being in nature and crafting. I enjoy skiing and being at a lake. During the pandemic I took up knitting and macrame and still try to find to work on projects.Project ideas
Understanding the role of alternative splicing across neurological diseases
This project will dive into the molecular dynamics behind neurological disorders. Here we will research differences in alternative splicing between healthy patients and those with neurological disorders. Finally you can propose treatments targeting the differential splicing occuring.
Model organisms for neuroscience research
This porject will dive into different model organisms used in neuroscience research. You will research the current model organisms and detail their advantages and disadvantages as well as what therapeutics have been developed with this organism. You will also research and propose a model organism to be used in neuroscience research.
Gene-Editing Therapeutics
This project will consist of researching different gene-editing therapeutics that are available for the disease of your choosing. As well as looking into gene-editing therapeutics that are currently being developed. Following the research a review of the findings can be compiled.
