Bio

Throughout my schooling, my research interests have largely stayed consistent: examining the experiences and psychological and emotional needs of students of color, while also highlighting their unique strengths and resilience in the face of adversity. Once I began specializing in sport and performance psychology, my interests became more focused and my research centered on the intersection between race, gender and athletic identity. Within these realms, I have presented my research nationally and regionally, published articles, and integrated my research into workshops and classrooms. Outside of my natural curiosity for the human experience, I like to get outside and play in nature. Whether that's hiking, camping, kayaking- if it gets me outside, I'm there! I also enjoy listening and dancing to music, cuddling with my pup, spending time with my family and friends (I love a good brunch!), game nights or binge-watching one of my favorite shows.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Designing and completing a research project

Were you ever curious about the experiences of other people? Or maybe you've wondered if your personal experiences are reflective of larger dynamics. A qualitative research project will allow you to hear people's stories while reflecting on your own. In this project, we would work together to identify a phenomenon that you're curious about, create a research design, formulate interview protocol, make sense of the data together, and identify possible implications.

Students or Professionals of Color in Predominantly White Environments/Industries

What are some of the experiences that BIPOC individuals have within their specific industry or environment? When working or living in predominantly White environments, what is the larger impact on one's self concept and one's psychological well-being? To what extent do BIPOC individuals utilize intrapersonal versus interpersonal coping strategies?

Writing a Literature Review

In this project, you will learn how to choose effective and reputable sources of information in order to illustrate a larger story. We will work together to identify how different pieces of information (i.e, publications, data, media sources, etc.) fit together to form a new understanding, how to effectively communicate the synthesized information to a specific audience, and how to identify the gaps in the current literature. This process will help you gain a deeper understanding of your chosen topic and provide you with directions for future research projects.

Teaching experience

I have taught undergraduate and graduate-level courses within the psychology and counseling fields for the past 5 years. More specifically, I have taught Introduction to Counseling, Counseling Theories, Psychology of Sport, Positive Psychology, College Teaching & Instruction, and Communication of Youth Serving Professionals.
