Expertise

Teacher self-efficacy, motivation, educational program evaluation, psychology of learning, developmental psychology, trauma-informed educational practices

Bio

My research focuses on teacher self-efficacy towards trauma-informed practices in K-12 educational settings. Additionally, through my research lab, I focus on the motivational processes of students and teachers using various motivational theories to support student and teacher outcomes. I am passionate about engaging school and community partners to address their most pressing needs. Outside of academia, I love exploring the river and trails around my city with my two pups. I love spending time with friends and family, traveling and experiencing new places.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

The Effects of COVID-19 on teacher motivation

Education is facing extreme levels of teacher burnout and resignations. COVID-19 has added various obstacles to teaching and learning such as transitioning to virtual schooling, an increase in mental health concerns, trauma, and economic disparities. Few studies have examined the lived experience of educators addressing these added obstacles and challenges. Together we can approach this topic through a survey or interviews (or both!) to better understand teachers' lived experiences working with students in the COVID-19 era.

A motivational theory review

For this project, you can write a scientific review paper on a motivational theory of your choice (ex. self-efficacy, expectancy value theory, self-determination theory) on a given population (ex. 8th grade girls) in a specific domain (ex. Math, writing, science etc.). Motivational studies are vast so narrowing by theory, population and domain will help you dive deep into your interest and provide a valuable summary of studies!

Teaching experience

I have been an adjunct instructor for two semesters for Human Development and Educational Psychology. In graduate school, I have co-instructed Human Development in Education. I have also been a teaching assistant for three semesters of Human Development in Education. In undergrad, I was a teaching assistant for Psychology of Learning and Job and Career Prep for Psychology students.
