Bio
Hi everyone! My name is Rebecca and I received my Masters in Social Work from New York University. I am passionate about studying mental health and wellness, as well as the way that social issues (such as racism, sexism, policy issues, and more, impact people's mental and physical health overall). I am also interested in educational achievement, and the ways that our academic systems can at times hinder student success. Outside of my studies, I really enjoy cooking, yoga and hiking!Project ideas
The Impact of Social Media on Teenage Disordered Eating
This project will explore the ways that social media influences disordered eating in teenagers. We will explore the ways that the media portrays different groups of people and how that impacts disordered eating within those groups.
Diagnosing Anxiety and Depression in Underrepresented Groups
Historically, mental health professionals often misdiagnose anxiety and depression in underrepresented groups. This is due to a variety of psychological and social factors that make anxiety and depression harder to identify in marginalized communities. We will explore these factors and the greater implications.
Female Academic Achievement Gaps in STEM Courses
This project will explore the gender achievement gaps that often occur for women in STEM courses (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). We will look at the reasons for academic gaps, as well as potential interventions to close gender gaps in STEM.
