Bio

I am an Applied Psychologist, Community-engaged Researcher, and Program Evaluation Specialist with over 7 years of experience in developing and implementing quantitative and qualitative research studies, and conducting process and outcome evaluations in sexual and gender-based violence prevention and response. My work focuses on mixed-methods evaluations of community interventions for survivors of gender-based violence, improving the community response to gender-based violence, evaluating victim service programs, and policy advocacy with community-based groups, and national and international organizations. I am also an experienced facilitator and trainer in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, program management, and M&E. In addition to my work, I find joy in traveling and exploring new cultures and sights with my family and friends, trying new sweet desserts, watching TV shows/movies, and reading modern classics by West African authors.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Social Action project: Developing a Public Awareness Campaign

The purpose of the project is to provide students with an opportunity to actively participate in addressing teen dating violence using a prevention approach. Specifically, students will apply critical thinking, research, and scientific communication skills to conduct a literature review on the topic of teen dating violence and create an awareness campaign to educate a selected target audience (e.g., high school students, teachers/school administration, and parents/caregivers) about the prevalence, risk factors, and consequences of teen dating violence, along with information on where and how to obtain support when needed. Students will also design multimedia informational materials and activities (e.g., brochures/pamphlets/bulletins, podcasts, etc.) for the campaign.

Both courses were offered asynchronously over a 7-week period with an average of 45 students in each class. As a member of the Graduate Teaching Assistant Program (GTAP) Advisory Board at Michigan State University, I have provided training and technical support to classroom instructors on how to apply culturally relevant strategies, and ensure equity and inclusion in providing quality instruction to students.
