Bio
Hi! My name is Rebecca and I am an interdisciplinary visual artist. I graduated from Tufts University in Boston, MA with an MFA and from the American University of Beirut with a BA in Studio Arts. In my artistic practice, I use ceramics, sculpture, photography and calligraphy as means to focus and bring forth the raising issues of the unjust political system in my country and the repercussions it has had on its people. I combine reality and philosophic understanding to imagine a utopic future. When I am not creating, I like to read, walk in nature and go to the beach. I have also become an avid cinephile, focusing mainly on Middle Eastern cinema. One of my favorite classes in grad school was about the Fantastic in Arabic Literature. We studied and read about the mythologic in old traditional stories and novels such as the Arabian nights. These topics fascinate me and I hope to bring them into my teaching. I also am interested in religion and exploring comparative religion in the Middle East.Project ideas
Historical Art Movements
Art history is a fascinating field to dive into. If you are interested in the arts or you just want to explore a new topic for a research paper, exploring historical art movements will teach you a lot on how artist movements were influence by historical events. Next time you enter a museum, you can be the one with all the information to share!
Art as a form of expression
In a world full of chaos, expressing oneself is necessary. I believe there is an artist in everyone. In this project, I help you turn an issue, whether political, social, economic... and turn it into a body of work. The body of work can be physical if you wish it to be or it can remain conceptual through its description. The main purpose of this project is using our creativity to approach a concept or topic in a way that is outside of the box.
