Bio
Hi, my name is Patrick Crotty. I earned a master's in political economy from Duke University. Political economy is a blend of economics and political science that seeks to understand how the economy affects politics and how politics affect the economy. My areas of interest include international trade, public opinion, and urban development. I'm currently employed at the International Trade Administration and am interested in helping students complete research papers in economics and political science. I love research and would love help students find their research interests and learn how to "think like an economist" (it's a good thing, I promise!). I live in Washington DC and love to run, cook, and go to rooftops in my free time.Project ideas
Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.
Research Paper in Voting and Public Opinion
Have you ever wondered what affects voting behavior? How might the economy, or one's identity, affect political party affiliation? Can public opinion shifts explain how the Democratic and Republican parties have changed over time? Together, we can use economics and political science research techniques to learn more about voting and public opinion. I can help you develop a quantitative research design and measurement strategy to answer these questions and uncover truths about voting behavior. This kind of paper will be very quantitative and look a variety of data sources. It might even involve collecting your own data!
