Bio
My name is Emily, and I'm a medical resident at UC San Diego pursuing neuroradiology. I graduated from Yale School of Medicine in May 2023 and previously was a Neuroscience major at Princeton. I'm passionate about neuroscience, neuroimaging, and the impact that AI can have on these fields. My current area of research focuses on applying AI/ML techniques to improve stroke patient outcomes based on their admission CT imaging data. My interest in neuroscience first developed when I was a high school student myself. I was a ballet dancer who found yoga as a means of cross-training, and the power of the mind body connection was immediately striking to me. I had to learn more and got very involved in research to this end. I'm still passionate about yoga and am now a hot yoga teacher as well. I love all forms of physical activity and adventuring - hiking, scuba diving, skiing, you name it. I also love baking and eating desserts in my free time.Project ideas
Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.
The Future of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in Neuroradiology
From automated detection of intracranial hemorrhage to prognostication of stroke patient outcome, machine learning- and artificial intelligence-based tools are increasingly prevalent in neuroradiology. The question remains - how will these tools affect the future of radiology? In this project, the student will conduct a literature review recent advances in AI/ML and make their conjectures about how these tools will impact radiology workflows, patient care, and the future of the field.

NoneTeaching experience
I have mentored numerous undergraduate students Neuroradiology and cognitive neuroscience labs at Princeton and Yale. In this context, I taught the students how to use our pipelines, basic coding for AI/ML, basic support for writing up results and managing citations, and how to code cognitive neuroscience/psych experiments. I have also taught high school students through the Yale School of Medicine's Health Professional Recruitment Exposure Program. This involved teaching high school students at lower income schools in New Haven about basic topics in medicine. I worked mostly over zoom due to covid.Credentials
