Bio
My academic and professional interests lie at the intersection of aerospace engineering, computer science, medicine, and design. In order to expand access to space travel and achieve a more permanent presence outside of our planet, we need many breakthroughs, particularly in autonomy and bioastronautics, for manufacturing space habitats and keeping humans healthy throughout the journey. With the accelerated commercialization of the space sector, it is an exciting time to be part of these undertakings. I dedicate most of my free time to reading and staying active by running, working out, playing tennis, swimming, and taking a shot at any sport I've never tried before.Project ideas
Surveying impacts of long-term space travel on the human body
A one-way trip to Mars takes approximately 6 months. During this long journey, the astronauts on board must deal with the harsh environment of space such as radiation and microgravity as well as isolation, communication delays, etc. The student can write a review paper surveying the existing technologies and strategies as well as ongoing advancements to counteract the effects of these factors on astronaut physiology, psychology, sensorimotor functionality, and overall health.
Product Design Cycle
Design is often thought of as an ad-hoc process, but it requires proper implementation of several key steps such as understanding the specific need your design seeks to address and current shortcomings in the market, customer feedback, prototyping, testing, iterating, and delivering a final product. In this project, the student can implement the product design process on a project of their own choosing.
