Bio

Hello there! I am a clinical psychology PhD student in the Department of Psychology & Neuroscience at Duke University. Broadly, I am interested in cutting-edge approaches to assessing and treating mood and anxiety disorders. These include advanced statistical and neuroimaging techniques, as well as mindfulness-based therapeutic approaches. I am also designing my own undergraduate course that offers a mix of science, religious studies, and philosophy to investigate the history and phenomenology of contemplation. Prior to going to college, I spent a year traveling, working, and volunteering around South America, New Zealand, and Western Europe. A sense of adventure both within and outside of my work is important to me, and I enjoy approaching student projects with an enthusiastic and intrepid spirit.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

How does mindfulness meditation affect the mental health of high school students?

In this project, we will conduct a literature search of recent studies that have examined the effect of mindfulness meditation on the mental health of high school students. This paper will review the impact of both individual and school-based mindfulness interventions on mental health symptoms and emotional wellbeing. Students will gain valuable experience in independent research, age-appropriate academic writing, synthesis of complicated information, and critical thinking.

Teaching experience

I have been a peer mentor in various capacities since high school, and mentoring remains one of my main passions. As a recipient of quality mentorship myself, I aim to pay it forward. Currently, I am a Peer Mentoring Fellow at Duke University, and work with several national organizations to increase representation at the doctoral student level. I have also received funding from Duke to develop my own course for undergraduates on the Science, Philosophy, and Phenomenology of Contemplation.
