Bio
Hi! My name is Serena and I am currently a third-year Bioengineering PhD student at the University of Pennsylvania. I graduated from the University of California, San Diego in 2020 with a degree in mathematics and computer science and am now attending Penn as an Interfaces Program in Biomedical Imaging Scholar and a National Science Federation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellow. My passion for research lies in biomedical imaging, where I am currently researching a novel x-ray technique - phase-contrast and dark-field x-ray - and working on both hardware and software components to bring the technology from the laboratory to bedside. Outside of academics and research, I am an avid skier during the winter and a racer during the summer. I am involved in the local autocross and car communities in addition to the rare plant community. At home, I like to try my hand at various arts and crafts and wind down at the end of the day with a good book.Project ideas
Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Since high school, I have actively tutored students both formally through tutoring centers as well as privately. In college, I served as a Lead Tutor for the Computer Science Department at my university and also tutored underprivileged youths at local elementary schools. Since beginning graduate school, I have participated in multiple programs involving building a science project and career and graduate application mentoring.Credentials
