Bio
During college at Georgetown University, I engrossed myself in all things science - from doing research in a genetics lab to majoring in Human Science and completing a pre-med curriculum. Upon completion of my B.S. in 2018, I joined the National Institutes of Health where I did research on gene editing and stem cell regeneration for two years. Following my time at the NIH, I started an MD/PhD program at Tufts University, where I am currently on my way to one day being a practicing physician who has a lab of my own. Outside of the world of science, I enjoy many activities. I collect old film cameras and enjoy photography. I also go on long bike rides and hope to do a cross-country cycling trip in the near future. I spend a lot of my time on various arts-and-crafts activities and am currently learning how to knit! I look forward to meeting you!Project ideas
Genome Editing: Review and Proposal
Genome editing is a rapidly developing field with enormous consequences for scientific and medical advancements. In the past few years, new techniques have emerged that have allowed for precise changes to the human genome. In this project, a student will write a review paper describing the multiple forms of genome editing and their applications. Additionally, they will propose a genome editing project that can help treat a disease of their interest - including computationally designing the appropriate tools one would need to carry out the project.
Podcast Series: Racism in Medicine
The medical field is not immune from racism. From deliberate experimentation on enslaved peoples to withholding proper treatment to Black Men in the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, racism has been present since the start of the medical profession in the United States. In this project, a student will research and interview professionals on different examples of racism in medicine. Each podcast episode will revolve around a specific example - with background information given by the student and a featured interview with a professional.
