MS candidate at Stanford University

Expertise

Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Product Design, Dance-Related Project

Bio

Hi everyone! My name is Calli and I'm a Master's student at Stanford University studying Mechanical Engineering with focuses in design, product realization, and manufacturing. My undergraduate education was in Engineering Physics and Math. I am very excited to be a mentor and help guide you through projects involving design, prototyping, physics, and math. My graduate degree heavily involves the product realization process - getting a creative spark or idea, investigating its need, benchmarking current solutions, rapid prototyping, and iterating on the design. These types of projects are exciting and highly educational, and I would love to help you develop your ideas. I'd also be happy to offer mentorship in your passion projects involving dance, being outdoors, schoolwork, and more.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Redesigning the Mundane

Look around you - there are thousands of everyday objects which are rarely redesigned. They've had the same look and function for decades. Can you redesign a commonplace object? Through this project, we will explore "need finding" (looking for user needs to design for), "benchmarking" (researching current products and solutions and learning from them/improving on them), rapid prototyping, and the iteration process. It can be as simple as redesigning scissors or as complex as redesigning a car.

Physics of Dance

Do you love dance and physics? How can you describe the art form through physics concepts? For example, how can you investigate the "physics of a pirouette"?

Designing for Special Users

Do you have someone in your life who could benefit from a product designed just for them? Through this project, we will explore "need finding" (looking for user needs to design for), "benchmarking" (researching current products and solutions and learning from them/improving on them), rapid prototyping, and the iteration process.
