Bio
I'm an Assistant Professor of Psychology studying goals and motivation, stereotypes and prejudice, and diversity science. I am passionate about research that can better people's lives and promote inclusion within society. My work utilizes quantitative and qualitative methods to understand people's beliefs, behaviors, and attitudes. Some current projects are examining multiple goal pursuit, stereotypes based on social class and gender, and STEM interest across marginalized backgrounds. Outside of the lab I love to hang out with friends and go out in nature. I'm a huge dog lover and amateur baker. I enjoy meeting new people and am excited to work with students on projects that motivate them!Project ideas
Understanding Diversity and Inclusion within STEM
The world needs scientists from all backgrounds - yet, disparities exist across race, gender, and class in who becomes a scientist. Recent literature in the social sciences and education suggests that there are multiple angles researchers and policy makers can take in combating these disparities. In this project you can review current interventions designed to promote diversity in STEM, and these interventions underlying psychological mechanisms. Projects could include a suggested intervention to promote STEM interest among currently underrepresented students.
How to Get Things Done
Setting - and achieving - our goals can be a daunting process. Yet, a wealth of psychological evidence has documented how we can best succeed in fulfilling our goals. In this project students can track their own goals while learning cutting-edge psychological science behind motivation and goal pursuit. Through this project students will gain greater insight into their own goals and behaviors and will gain a grasp on social psychological perspectives underlying motivation and self-regulation.
