Bio

I am Bibit, a roboticist, engineer, artist, and avid tinkerer. My vision is to develop robotic systems for the betterment of the human experience. Through my PhD research, I work towards equipping robots with a better sense of how to physically interact with the environment, objects, and people around them with efficiency and efficacy. I aspire to apply my technical skills gained in this pursuit towards an ailing problem in our lifetime, such as climate change. When I’m not working with robots, I enjoy hiking with my dog, Hank, as well as working on plenty of personal projects, such as furniture, drawings, or an electronic clock made from nixie tubes. I also love spending time with my two sisters, who shamelessly laugh at my bad but enthusiastic karaoke and dancing skills.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Conduct a review on the state-of-the-art in a robotics topic

Survey papers are writings which concisely report on the state-of-the-art within a specific field, referencing other works which each provide their own results. Pick a specific topic within the broad field of robotics on which to conduct a review. This involves searching for relevant research papers which have contributed to this field, understanding their contributions and shortcomings, and comparing that with other works. Making such comparisons will require devising metrics for comparing different works in an apples to apples way, and will require understanding individual papers in the context of the larger field.

Coding skills

python, matlab, C, C++

Languages I know

French, beginner

Teaching experience

For the past 6 years, I have done various Teaching Assistantships for undergraduate and graduate courses at my prior and current academic institution. Additionally, I try to hold at least one extra mentoring position outside of my school at a time, most recently with MAGIC (a program in which I mentor a couple of high school girls through their self-led STEM-related projects), the Tech Challenge for a team of 4th graders, and MIT Global Teaching Labs (a program I joined twice for a month each in Mexico and Morocco to teach grade school students makerspace-related projects).
