Bio
I am a passionate educator who is striving to teach mathematics in an approchable and applicable way. I include manipulatives and white boards in my instruction to make lessons engaging and create projects so students can see real-world applications of the concepts they are learning. My goal is to give students the skills to solve problems and think critically inside and outside the classroom. Outside the classroom I love to spend time outside gardening, running, hiking and camping. I also enjoy reading, excercising, and spending time with family and friends.Project ideas
Literature review for teaching mathematics
There are so many methods for teaching certain concepts in mathematics. However as more research is done, some methods have been proven to be more effective than others. What are the best methods for introducing a concept? Is it the same for every concept or for every grade level? What is the most efficient and effective way to help students learn math? These questions can be examined by doing a literature review. The results can be presented in a variety of ways, like a research paper or podcast.
Real World Applications - Mathematics
"When will I ever use this?" Many students ask this question when learning mathematics. Math makes up the world around us and is used every day in ways many people don't realize and projects can help students realize how math is used in the real world. This project will involve picking concept(s) and creating a project that uses those concepts in a real-world application. The parts of the project that should be included are the directions to the project, standards the project applies to, a rubric, and an example of a completed project.
